When the Tables are Turned

I spend a great deal of my time helping other people start things. And finish them in the sense that we actually get the idea off the ground, bring it to life.

While each new client brings a unique set of challenges, for the most part I’d say my job is easy. It’s comfortable. I know what I’m doing. I know how to help other people take action on their sometimes crazy ideas.

It’s funny how quickly you forget everything you know when the tables are turned.

A friend came to me a week or so ago & told me he thought we should start a business together. If I’m honest, there was entirely more hesitation & fear than there was excitement.

For someone like me, it’s easy to own someone else’s vision, to encourage them to fight resistance, even to help them push past it when they can’t do it on their own. It’s significantly harder to give yourself the same pep talk you are used to giving others. It’s significantly harder to fight resistance when it’s your own vision on the line. It’s significantly harder to put ideas into action when the tables are turned.

But, when the tables are turned, when I feel a dreamer’s pain, it’s a sweet reminder of why I do what I do.
