The Key is Focus
One of the questions I get asked most often is how I manage to juggle the lives/schedules/projects of 5…6…7…sometimes more…clients at the same time.
For me, the key is focus. It’s being able to give my attention to one project at a time. Yes, some days life happens & 5 things must be addressed simultaneously. But, my goal when I’m working is to focus on one client at a time in 30 minute segments.
Sometimes tasks demand more than 30 minutes, but I’ve found that to be a good time frame the majority of the time for a couple of reasons…
- It gives me enough time to accomplish something of significance.
- It is short enough to keep my brain thinking time is short & valuable. This helps me to spend the time more efficiently.
- Checking email only 2 or 3 times a day just isn’t feasible with the nature of my work. But, I can go 30 minutes or even an hour without glancing at email & not worry that I’m missing something urgent from a client.
Do you have to juggle multiple projects at a time? How do you keep them all straight?
